Journalist Visa Process

For all journalists from outside of Mainland China who would like to attend and cover CES Asia in Shanghai, our host country China requests your submission of proper documentation in order to obtain clearance. Below is the current process for securing a Visa. Please note that this is subject to change prior to CES Asia 2018.

Process for International Media

For international journalists traveling from outside of China, a J-1 or J-2 Visa is required. The necessary steps include:

  • Register as media for CES Asia as soon as possible (registration for CES Asia 2018 will open early next year). Answer all required questions (with a red asterisk), including Visa application information, and attach credentials and a copy of your passport to complete your media registration. Please make sure all information provided is correct. Missing or incorrect information could affect the Visa application.
  • After your media registration is confirmed by show management, please complete the State of Visa Letter for Foreign Journalists on company letterhead and have it signed by your direct supervisor. Click here for template of letter. Then scan the letter and send it CESAsiaMedia@CTA.tech.
  • After your Visa application is approved, a Visa invitation letter will be emailed to you by CES Asia while a Visa-clearance notification will be sent from the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office to the Chinese consulate or embassy you provide during the registration process. Make sure you provide the correct consulate and embassy information.
  • You will then need to take your Visa invitation letter and apply for your J-1 or J-2 Visa within three (3) working days at the Chinese consulate or embassy that your notification was sent to.
    • Applications are different for each country. You are advised to visit this link for more country-specific information
    • Please make sure you go to the consulate or embassy you provided on your registration (this is where your notification will be sent).
  • Present your Visa on-site at a media badge pick-up location*.
