Journalist Visa Process

For journalists from outside of Mainland China who would like to attend and cover CES Asia in Shanghai, our host country China requests you submit proper documentation in order to obtain clearance. Below is the current process for securing a Visa. Please note this is subject to change prior to CES Asia 2018.

Process for International Media

For international journalists temporarily traveling from outside of China, a J1 or J-2 Visa is required. The necessary steps include:

  • Register as media for CES Asia as soon as possible. Answer all required questions (with a red asterisk), including Visa application information. Attach your credentials and a copy of your passport to complete your registration. Make sure all information provided is correct. Missing or incorrect information could affect your Visa application.
  • After your media registration is confirmed by Show Management, have the State of Visa Letter for Foreign Journalists completed by your organization and signed by your direct supervisor (i.e., editor or producer) on company letterhead (that includes company address). Then send the State Letter to liushiyu@shanghai-intex.com.
  • Show Management will send your Visa application information, State Letter and a copy of your passport to the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office for approval.
  • After your Visa application is approved, a Visa-clearance notification will be sent from the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office to the Chinese consulate or embassy you provide during the registration process, and a Visa invitation letter will be emailed to you by Show Management. You must take your Visa invitation letter and apply for your J-1 or J-2 Visa within three (3) working days at the Chinese consulate or embassy your notification was sent to.
  • Present your Visa on-site at a media badge pick-up location.
